Collection Development
Keeping in view of the aspects of the curriculum and resources required to support research, teaching and learning activities, the library collection is constantly updated both in print and electronic form.
Requirements of the faculty are sought ahead of the beginning of each semester and accordingly books & journals are procured in addition to the continuous procurement activity based on faculty recommendations and preset collection development process.
Following points are taken care while building the library collection:
- Procurement must be relevant to the current and curriculum needs.
- The latest edition available for any required book is procured.
- The hardbound and non-edited versions of books, unless and otherwise recommended by a faculty member, are procured.
- Subject-wise publisher catalogues are used in preparing the list.
- Regular visiting to the publisher sites to prepare the list
After procurement, books are classified and catalogued using standard procedures and added to the library collection
Steps will be taken to ensure that the books requested by the faculty are procured within a minimum time frame and intimated about the availability of the same as soon as the books are added to the library collection.
Dewey Decimal Classification (22nd Edition) is used for classifying the books.
